Im August 2021 wird Graz mehr als 100 Athleten aus über 15 Nationen bei der 1. Special Olympics Tanzsport-Weltmeisterschaft begrüßen. Athleten mit intellektueller Beeinträchtigung treten in vier Kategorien (Solos, Duos, Paare und Teams) in den vier Disziplinen Ballroom, Streetdance, Performing Arts und Specialty an.

Dance Sport wurde 2019 von Special Olympics offiziell anerkannt und wird somit auch Teil der zukünftigen World Winter Games sein. Dieser einzigartige Sport wird sowohl die Anzahl der weiblichen Teilnehmer als auch die Anzahl der Erfahrungen mit Unified-Partnern erhöhen. Darüber hinaus wird der Tanzsport mehr Menschen dazu ermutigen, sich regelmäßig körperlich zu betätigen.

Special Olympics ist seit mehr als 27 Jahren in Österreich aktiv und hat rund 2.000 Athleten, die jedes Jahr an mehr als 100 Sportwettkämpfen im ganzen Land teilnehmen. In den Jahren 1993 und 2017 war Österreich Gastgeberland der Special Olympics World Winter Games.

In August 2021, Graz will welcome more than 100 athletes from over 15 nations as the host city of the first Special Olympics World Championship Dance Sport ever. Athletes with intellectual disabilities will compete in four categories (Solos, Duos, Couples and Teams) within the four disciplines Ballroom, Streetdance, Performing Arts and Specialty.

Dance Sport has been officially recognized by Special Olympics in 2019 and will be part of future World Winter Games. This unique sport will increase both, the number of female participants and the number of Unified ® Partner experiences.  In addition, dance will encourage more people to engage in physical activities on a regular basis.

Special Olympics has been active in Austria for more than 27 years and has 2.000 active athletes who participate in more than 100 sports competitions across the country every year. In 1993 and 2017, Austria has been the host country for the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
